Celebrating voice, dignity, and the power of lived experience this July.
July is Disability Pride Month — and while it’s not yet officially recognised in Australia, it’s deeply meaningful to many of the people we support, care for, and work alongside every day.
At Nurse Assist 24/7, this month is more than a celebration — it’s a reminder that people with disability aren’t defined by their challenges. They’re defined by their strength, their individuality, and their right to live with pride, not pity.
What Is Disability Pride?
Disability Pride is about visibility, voice, and ownership of identity. It challenges outdated narratives that frame disability as something to hide or overcome. Instead, it says:
“This is who I am — and I am proud.”
For our participants, pride can look like many things:
-
Living independently with the right support
-
Speaking up in planning meetings
-
Pursuing goals without apology
-
Feeling seen and respected — without needing to explain themselves
It’s also about creating environments where support is not charity, but a right to dignity, access, and choice.
Why This Month Aligns With Our Work
As an NDIS provider, everything we do — from personal care and community nursing to SIL and SDA services — is rooted in empowerment, respect, and autonomy.
Disability Pride Month reminds us:
-
That every person deserves to shape their own life
-
That disability is a part of diversity, not a problem to solve
-
That representation matters — in care, in leadership, and in community
We’re proud to walk beside participants who inspire, lead, advocate, and thrive — not in spite of their disability, but as their full selves.
How We’re Marking the Month
This July, we’re using our platforms to:
-
Share empowering participant stories (with consent)
-
Acknowledge the everyday courage and leadership in our community
-
Celebrate our support teams who uphold dignity and choice every day
-
Invite conversation — online and offline — about what pride looks like in disability
We’re not here to speak for people. We’re here to listen, amplify, and stand beside them.
Pride Is Powerful
Disability Pride Month isn’t just about celebration — it’s about shifting mindsets.
It reminds us that care should never diminish someone’s identity — it should support it. That’s what we commit to at Nurse Assist 24/7, not just in July, but every day.
