National Carers Week 2026: Recognising Carers and the Support They Deserve

National Carers Week: 11–17 October 2026

Caring for someone living with disability can be rewarding, but it can also place significant demands on family members and loved ones. From helping with everyday activities to coordinating appointments and providing emotional support, carers often take on responsibilities that require time, patience and commitment.

During National Carers Week 2026, Nurse Assist 24/7 recognises the people who provide this essential care and highlights the importance of ensuring that carers and the people they support have access to the right assistance.

Why support for carers matters

Many family carers balance their caring responsibilities with work, parenting, household duties and their own personal needs. Without appropriate support, these responsibilities can become overwhelming and leave little time for rest or personal wellbeing.

Access to reliable disability support can help reduce some of the pressure on families. It can also give participants opportunities to develop their independence, build confidence and take part in activities that matter to them.

At Nurse Assist 24/7, we believe that quality support begins with understanding each person’s circumstances, preferences and goals. Support should respect the participant’s choices while helping families navigate their caring responsibilities with greater confidence.

How Nurse Assist 24/7 supports participants and families

As an NDIS service provider, Nurse Assist 24/7 offers a range of supports designed around individual needs and goals.

Daily living and personal care

Assistance with everyday activities can help participants maintain their routines, build independence and receive support with personal care where needed.

In-home nursing services

For participants who require nursing support, our in-home nursing services can help address relevant care needs within the person’s home environment.

Support Coordination

Understanding an NDIS plan and connecting with appropriate services can be challenging. Support Coordination helps participants navigate their supports and work towards making the most of their plans.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

Where appropriate to a participant’s needs and funding, SIL and SDA-related supports and accommodation options can help people explore living arrangements that suit their circumstances and goals.

Community participation and skill development

Participation in community activities and opportunities to develop everyday skills can help participants build confidence, pursue interests and strengthen their connections with others.

By working with participants and their families, Nurse Assist 24/7 aims to provide support that recognises the individual, respects personal choices and promotes greater independence.

Recognising carers throughout the year

National Carers Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment of family members and other unpaid carers. It is also a reminder that carers deserve understanding, respect and opportunities to look after their own wellbeing.

For families supporting someone living with disability, finding suitable services can make a meaningful difference. The right support can help participants work towards their goals while giving families greater confidence in their loved one’s care arrangements.

If you are exploring disability support options, start by identifying the participant’s needs, preferences and goals. Discuss available supports, ask questions about service arrangements and choose options that respect the person’s independence and dignity.
